Step 7: Obtain Liability Insurance

Student Teachers (and Interns) are not covered by professional liability insurance through Texas State University or the public school district. Liability insurance for Student Teachers (and Interns) is mandatory. It is FREE through membership in the student branches of most professional educator associations.

  1. Pick one organization: ATPE, TCTA, or TSTA.
  2. Sign up for a FREE student membership.
  3. Take a screenshot of your notice of membership or an email acknowledgement from the organization.
  4. Upload to ePortfolio when your Student Teaching binder opens.
