A Message From the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Curriculum and Instruction! Our department is an integral part of Texas State University and celebrates our foundation as a Normal School in 1899 to serve the state's need for trained teacher. We have grown to become one of the largest and most comprehensive educator preparation programs in the nation. We offer doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate degrees that span educational needs for early childhood students through those pursuing college and university degrees.
Our students are prepared to become critical and innovative educators and researchers who are responsive to the unique educational needs of every child. That means we take it upon ourselves to dismantle social inequities and transform lines to build a more inclusive, just, and prosperous society.
Having received a master's and doctoral degree from Texas State University, I feel that Bobcat pride every day! I know this institution provided me a world-class education and remains my cornerstone. Having taught in schools for 26 years before coming to higher education, I credit my successful career to what I learned at this university. I am so lucky to have been educated here and get to work here!
