Dear Parent,

Please carefully read the information in this packet that describes your child’s classroom project in Comparing Your World, I believe this project represents a wonderful and valuable learning opportunity for your child.  I realize it is a lot of information to read but I believe it is very important that you understand all aspects of the project so that your child will meet with the highest level of success.  Comparing Your World requires self-discipline and hard work.  Please check on your child’s progress from time to time and feel free to contact me if you have any questions (phone: 555-1234, e-mail: rnc@ut.edu).

The classroom project has several components of which some will require out of class time.  In particular, the bridge project will require between 1 to 2 days with multiple hours working on completing the bridges with their partners.  So students with and without busy extracurricular schedules need to plan ahead for such projects.  The other mini-projects will be like typical homework assignments, but might take a few more hours and will include supplies (scissors, tape, etc.) that need to be purchased by you, the guardian, or checked out from my classroom and returned the next day.  A substantial amount of class time will be devoted to these projects to offset the out of class time demands.  The students will be handling exacto knives, but as a class we will discuss the safety procedures before use.

We will be taking a local field trip to a nearby park to have one of our lessons.  For this trip permission forms will be given to your student to take home and for you to sign and return.  This field trip will be during class time and will not take up any extra time outside of the school day.  In addition to classroom instruction, the students will be required to participate in a classroom debate with their classmates along with participating in a couple short presentations of their creations throughout the course of this project.  The culmination of the grades for this project will count for twenty five percent of the student’s course grade.

Please sign below so that I know that you have seen this letter.  Thank you for your time and interest.

Sincerely,

Rachel Carroll
