Letter to Parents
Dear Parent/Guardian:
Next week our class will begin a unit on the
mathematics of music. Students will be asked to use their mathematical
knowledge to analyze music. The students will be taught all of the
music theory that will be necessary to succeed in this project.
Students will be making two presentations during
the unit and may choose to use poster boards or other visual aids.
Materials used for presentations will need to be purchased by the
students. All materials needed to conduct musical analysis, such as
manuscript paper and sheet music, will be provided by the school.
Students will be graded on their individual work. They will be graded
for the ability to stay within the given guidelines as well as for the
completeness of their analysis.
If you have any questions, please contact me by
phone or email. Please ask your son or daughter about what they
learning. It will give them an opportunity to practice for their
presentation and you may learn some interesting things about how
mathematics is related to music.
Please detach, sign, and return the bottom of this
letter so I know you have read it.
Thanks,
