Dear Parent/Guardian,

Beginning next week your child will participate in a four week project. This project will bring to light how animals interact with their environment and the environmental factors in Austin affect endangered species. Through this project students will gain a cohesive unit of science to better understand and practice scientific concepts.

As we progress through the project, your child will work with a team of two other children in their Science class on observing one of four endangered species in the Austin area. Each group is asked to create a solution to local environmental factors that have been shown to impact the surrounding animal populations. Your child and his/her team will be the “class experts” on that species and will give a Presentation of their results to other schools. Their results will also be posted on a class website.

Your child will have time in class to work with his/her group members on the project.  If needed or desired we will be available for groups to meet before or after school or during lunch.

We believe this project will be a challenging and rewarding experience for your child.  We invite you to attend your child’s and his/her team scheduled day for their Presentation.  In the next two weeks we will send a Project Display schedule home with your child.

If you have any questions please feel free to call one Science teacher team members: Ms. Tran, Ms. Hammeed, Ms. Pan, or Mr. Krimmel at 555-5555.

I have read and understand what is expected of my child, ________________________, and myself in this course and how he/she will be graded.
