Only One Ocean is a unit, which helps students understand the important role the ocean plays. This unit has been planned around students in 7th grade, but can be modified to fit students in grades 5 thru 8. There are several hands-on activities, which will guide the students in this understanding. The students are able to dissect a squid, visualize how much of the earth is covered in water through an apple, and several other unique in-class activities. The students are also able to investigate issues that may threaten the species who call the oceans their home and discover what resources the ocean can give to the human population and how some of those resources are shrinking in availability.
