Where to Give
While we are thankful for every gift, we would appreciate donor support for the following projects, which advance our strategic plan.
Animal Assisted Counseling Academy
The Texas State University Animal-Assisted Counseling (AAC) Academy is a professional training program that promotes the human-animal bond through the study and practice of animal-assisted counseling and play therapy. The mission of the AAC Academy is to provide quality training in animal-assisted counseling that improves the well being of children and families through positive human-animal interactions.
The Central Texas Writing Project
The Central Texas Writing Project (CTWP), a site of the National Writing Project, is a non-profit K-16 professional development provider within the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education. Educators and education leaders are invited to attend a wide variety of CTWP professional development programs, including a Summer Institute, Open Institutes, Advanced Institutes, and other professional growth settings that bring colleagues together to explore the most successful research-based approaches for teaching writing.
College of Education Scholarship Fund
As a premier professional school, Texas State University's College of Education is dedicated to enhancing human potential for all through excellent teaching, relevant scholarship and community engagement. There are over 6,000 students enrolled in College of Education programs, many of whom need financial assistance. The College of Education awards over 60 scholarships each year and would like to offer even more support to our students, especially those who are entering their student teaching semesters.
Tomás Rivera Book Award
Texas State University’s College of Education established the Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children’s Book Award in 1995 in memory of Dr. Tomás Rivera, a distinguished alumnus. This award honors authors and illustrators who create literature depicting the Mexican American experience. Each year, the Curriculum and Instruction department brings award recipients to San Marcos for book readings, autographs, and activities. Students from surrounding areas are provided copies of the winning books and invited to participate in this special occasion. Students study the works of the authors and create responses to the book to share at the author presentations.
