Jesse Gainer, a former elementary teacher, is in the reading program area. He teaches undergraduate and graduate classes focusing on literacy development and pedagogy in culturally and linguistically diverse contexts. His major research and teaching interests are critical multicultural children’s literature, early literacy in child-centered educational spaces, and culturally relevant literacy curriculum and pedagogy. He is formerly a bilingual elementary teacher and a Reading Recovery teacher.
