Dear Parent,
Thank you for taking time to read this letter. Your child has been doing great work in class and we will be building upon their success with a series of projects in the coming weeks. I would like to take the time to map out the expectations and also the goals of these projects.
We have recently been discussing broad topics in Earth Science. The projects will narrow into the areas of aquifers and hydrogeology. My hope is to have the students develop an appreciation of the water we drink, use, and often take for granted. The projects will have the students design and develop scale models of hydrogeologic systems and find out how humans impact them.
I have no doubt that your child will be successful. In order to foster success, I will be instituting several deadlines for drafts. In this way, the student will not be overwhelmed with the work and I can also give them timely feedback to help them on their finished project. Your child will have a great deal of class time to work on the project, but he/she may need to work 3-4 hours a week outside of class time to complete their tasks.
The materials for the projects will be provided by me. However, there are some basic supplies that your child will need. Pens, pencils, a 120 sheet notebook, and calculator will be need to supplement the materials in the project.
If you have any questions about the project, please feel free to call me. I will be more than happy to answer your questions and address your concerns.
Sincerely,
