“Civil Rights Movement” Semester Project

Dear Parent,

                For the next six weeks, your child will have an on going project over the civil rights movement.  Your student will pick one particular topic from the civil rights unit that we will be covering in class.  This project is designed to deepen the student's understanding of the civil rights movement through research and planning.  We will cover all of the topics related to the civil rights movement in class, and students will have the freedom to pick any of the related topics for their semester project.  The following questions and answers will give you more detail about the unit:

How will the unit be graded?

                Your child's grade will be primarily based on evaluations of their class worksheets, participation in class discussions and debates, research paper, and a six weeks exam.  The rubrics for these activities will be handed out next week in class.

What supplies will your child need to purchase? How much time is required for your child?

                All necessary materials for the project will be provided in class.  There will be lab days allowing each student time to get started on their project and ask any questions that may come up.  Work outside of school will be necessary but the student's will have the entire six weeks period to complete the project.
