Veterans Upward Bound is designed to motivate and assist veterans in the development of academic and other requisite skills necessary for acceptance and success in a program of postsecondary education. The program provides assessment and enhancement of basic skills through counseling, mentoring, tutoring and academic instruction in the core subject areas. The primary goal of the program is to increase the rate at which participants enroll in and complete postsecondary education programs.

Eligibility (Meet some or all)

Be a veteran or active duty service member with 181 or more days active duty service and discharged under conditions other than dishonorable

Meet the criteria for low-income according to guidelines published by Department of Education, AND/OR a first-generation potential college graduate

Demonstrate academic need
Have been out of school for more than five years
Are disabled as defined in Americans with Disabilities Act 42 U.S.C. 12101

Meet other local eligibility criteria as noted in the local VUB project's Approved Grant Proposal, such as county of residence, etc.

Why is this information needed?

Veterans Upward Bound is funded through a Department of Education grant designed to assist veterans enter and succeed in college. We must serve veterans that meet the qualifications above, however, veterans do not have to meet all criteria to receive services from Veterans Upward Bound.
