Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers
Current and incoming students who meet the criteria below may apply for the scholarship of up to $8,000/yr for up to 4 years.

Who is eligible?
Students in the undergraduate major in Education – Early Childhood to Grade 6/English as a Second Language teacher certification. See below for details of all criteria and qualifications.
Charles Butt Scholars receive:
• Mentorship from an experienced educator.
• Professional development, including the annual Charles Butt Scholar Symposium & inclusion in an on-campus teaching club.
• Professional support before and after graduation from the Charles Butt Foundation.
• Connection with a network of passionate aspiring teachers from across the state.
TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP, YOU MUST BE:
- Declared as an Education Major with one of the following:
- EC-6 ESL (residency and non-residency)
- Middle School
- Secondary (residency only)
- Special Education (residency only)
- Ready to take your Field-based Block (RDG 3315, RDG 3321, CI 4325) in Fall 2023 or later.
- Committed to taking your Field-based Block and Clinical Teaching in the Residency program. Residency is a full-year experience that combines coursework, Elementary Field-based Block, and Clinical Teaching at one school. Residency locations are currently Lockhart ISD, San Marcos CISD, Manor ISD, and Hutto ISD. Completing Residency does not increase time to graduation.
- Willing to participate in professional development, networking, and mentoring provided by the Charles Butt Foundation's Raising Texas Teachers program.
- Committed to teaching in a majority-economically disadvantaged school (meaning more than 50% of students are eligible for free or reduced lunch) once you graduate and become a certified teacher.
- Exemplify the following knowledge, skills, and values: written communication, oral communication, collaboration, leadership, altruism, passion for education, equity-driven, belief in the power of teaching, academic achievement, persistence and continuous learning.
- Maintain 3.0 grade point average while a scholarship recipient.
