Chapter 2
Field Experience (Blocks)
Purpose and Definition
According to the Texas Education Agency, there are specific requirements to becoming a classroom teacher. One of these requirements is completion of field-based experiences. Field Experience is an introductory experience involving reflective observation of K-12 students, teachers, and faculty/staff members engaging in educational activities in a school setting. Field Experience at Texas State University is most commonly referred to as Blocks.
- Blocks: a set of classes that will introduce you to reflective observation of students, teachers, and faculty/staff engaging in educational activities in a school setting.
- You will spend two full days a week on a school campus. This is an immersive, hands-on experience that both fulfills the TEA requirement for field-based experience and prepares you for Student Teaching.
