IntroductionThis grade 1 -3 unit is designed to introduce students to a fundamental concept in science literacy: matter and its states. Students will learn how to apply solids, liquids, and gases in the real world. In this unit students will explore, think critically, gather information, and apply their evidence. Students will focus on three basic states of matter-solid, liquids and gases. Students will classify objects using properties of solids, and liquids. Students will learn that gases exist by the smells they observe. In this unit students are given multiple opportunities to revise their ideas about matter as they justify their evidence with their groups. Students will continue to explore using materials and tools to collect and measure substances. Children will be engaged with learning by knowing that matter surrounds us everyday. |
