Students may look down
at their hands and wonder about the lines embedded on their fingertips. Fingerprinting is an
excellent way for
students to learn and practice observation and classification skills,
while
gaining an appreciation for the
uniqueness of the individual
since no two
prints are alike. In this unit students
will explore fingerprints and act as criminalists to solve a mystery.
They will make and classify their own prints
using the standard classification system or their own creative classification
method. This lesson is cross-curricular,
with applications in history, art, math, literature and science.
