Karen Hames (M.Ed.) has been elected President of “The Association of Texas Professional Educators (APTE)” for the year 2021-2022. Hames is an eighth-grade English/language arts and reading teacher in Lewisville ISD, Region 11, with 43 years of educational experience and 24 years as an ATPE member. She will serve one year as ATPE’s Chief Volunteer Officer for nearly 100,000 ATPE members. Hames professional achievements and educational experience have been displayed through an extensive history of leadership. In 1976, Hames graduated from Texas State University’s College of Education department with a Bachelor of Education in Speech & English, 6-12. She also served as a member of “Gamma Phi Beta” and achieved many accomplishments such as song leader, activities chair, best active, and best big sister. Hames’ other notable achievements include her leadership as president of Texas State’s Speech Club and Miss South Texas.
