APCE Faculty Member Inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame
Lisa M. Baumgartner, a professor of Adult, Professional, and Community Education (APCE) and director of the APCE PhD program, was inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame in Florence, Italy, on November 8, 2024.
The International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame is a nonprofit corporation that honors individuals who have made distinguished contributions to the field of adult and continuing education in policy, service, or research. The official home of the Hall of Fame is the University of Oklahoma’s University Outreach, Thurman J. White Forum Building, Norman, Oklahoma.
Dr. Baumgartner was honored for her research and scholarship in adult education. Dr. Baumgartner’s achievements include her widely cited texts Learning in Adulthood: A Comprehensive Guide (3rd and 4th editions), where Baumgartner made significant changes to this longstanding adult education classic text by including research and scholarship by marginalized groups and thus expanded the understanding of adult learning theory, learners, and adult development. Considered the "bible" of adult learning theory, Learning in Adulthood: A Comprehensive Guide (3rd ed) was translated into Korean. Baumgartner has authored four texts, one monograph concerning adult learning theory or teaching, and over 200 publications and presentations.
