Outstanding Master's and Doctoral-Level Students
Ariel Dennis
Ariel Dennis is a highly accomplished graduate student on track to become a leading school psychologist. Her impressive academic record includes a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Biology with honors, a Master's degree in Psychological Sciences, and a Specialist in School Psychology with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Ariel's passion for working with children with disabilities is evident in her extensive experience. She has interned at school districts, conducting assessments, providing counseling, and collaborating with families and educators. Her research experience is equally impressive, focusing on traumatic brain injury and writing instruction for students with disabilities. She has presented her findings at conferences and co-authored peer-reviewed publications.
Ariel's dedication, research skills, and experience in working with diverse populations make her a deserving recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Student award at the master's level.
Cassandra Gonzales
Cassandra Gonzales is a recent graduate student who earned her Ph.D. in Developmental Education from Texas State University in 2023. Her dissertation focused on understanding how Latina/o/x students seek academic help, considering factors like cultural background, sense of belonging, and campus climate.
In her academic career, Cassandra has consistently demonstrated excellence. She graduated with a 4.0 GPA from her Master's program in Counseling Psychology and a 3.9 GPA in her doctoral program. In addition to her doctoral dissertation, her research experience includes working as a research analyst at The University of Texas at Austin and a doctoral research assistant at Texas State University. While working on her Ph.D., Cassandra was also a teacher at the Mercedes Independent School District.
Doctoral Level Outstanding Graduate Students
Kelley Glover is a doctoral student in the School Improvement program at Texas State University. Her dissertation is titled "Sistas Vibin': A Critical Embodied Perspective of Educational Leadership Through the Lens of Black Women Music Educators." Glover also has a Master's degree in Music Education from the Eastman School of Music, a Bachelor of Music Education from Howard University, and an Associate's degree in Music Education from Miami Dade College.
Esther Pippins is a highly accomplished doctoral candidate at Texas State University, pursuing a degree in Adult, Professional, and Community Education. With a history of academic excellence (including a perfect 4.0 GPA in two Master's degrees) and a distinguished record of awards and achievements, Pippins demonstrates a strong commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. Her involvement in various educational organizations further solidifies her dedication to the field.
Master's Level Outstanding Graduate Students
Steven Buehler is a caring and enthusiastic elementary school teacher with a wide range of experiences both inside and outside the classroom. He is committed to providing a positive and challenging classroom environment through a variety of instructional materials and strategies.
Walker Dunn, a rising star in special education. Combining academic excellence (Summa Cum Laude in Psychology) with hands-on experience as a Registered Behavior Technician, Dunn has designed behavior programs, conducted research (publications in progress), and even showcased a creative side through freelance motion design. Recognized for his clinical excellence and research contributions, Dunn's membership in professional organizations like ABAI solidifies his dedication to supporting individuals with autism.
Meg Hardick, a soon-to-be Master's graduate in Education with a background in environmental science, fosters equitable learning environments. She utilizes PBIS, de-escalation techniques, and culturally-responsive teaching as an 8th-grade science teacher, advocates for teacher well-being on the district's insurance committee, and empowers students through Girls+ Outside and prior life skills experience.
Madison McLarry is a dedicated Public Health Education and Promotion graduate student. As a student intern at the Black Men’s Health Clinic, Madison assists with case management and community engagement, while also serving as a graduate instructional assistant at Texas State University. Her passion for public health extends beyond her professional roles; Madison volunteers with organizations like Remote Area Medical and has served as President of Eta Sigma Gamma. Through her commitment and diverse experiences, Madison strives to make a meaningful impact in promoting wellness and health equity.
Payton Miller, a driven master's student, is passionate about advancing knowledge in Exercise Science. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, she enhances undergraduate learning through innovative strategies, while her research in the Clinical Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology Laboratory contributes to peer-reviewed publications and presentations at esteemed conferences like the NSCA National Meeting. Payton's academic excellence earned her the Outstanding Student Presenter of Original Research award at the Texas State University HPP Scholars’ Day in 2023, highlighting her exceptional dedication to the field.
Ifedola Owoeye is a dedicated Master's student in Adult Professional and Community Education at Texas State University, with a Bachelor's degree in Adult Education from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. She brings valuable research experience as a Research Assistant for the National Science Foundation Career Project, coupled with a strong commitment to education, showcased through her roles as an Academic Coach and Teacher. A natural leader, Ifedola serves as Treasurer of the Graduate Student Organization and actively volunteers for initiatives like The Educational Institute and Teens Grow Initiative, demonstrating her multifaceted dedication to education and community service.
Zoe Pitts is a certified educator with a diverse teaching background and a dedication to student success. With certifications in various education fields and experience ranging from kindergarten to fourth grade, including roles as a reading mentor and bilingual tutor, Zoe excels in personalized instruction and cultural responsiveness. Her leadership extends beyond the classroom, demonstrated by her tenure as Publicity Director for the Longhorn Singers. Currently pursuing a Master's in Elementary Education, Zoe is poised to make a significant impact on her students' lives.
Jamie A. Saucedo is a dedicated educator and advocate pursuing a Master of Education in Student Affairs in Higher Education at Texas State University. With strengths in leadership and relational skills, Jamie excels in grant coordination, curriculum development, and community engagement. Their commitment to equity and inclusion is evident in their involvement in various initiatives, including restorative justice and diversity programs. As a dynamic leader and advisor, Jamie shapes educational environments that empower individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Juju Seki is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Athletic Training at Texas State University. With a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton, Juju excels in communication and time management. Her experience includes interning with Major League Baseball's Cincinnati Reds, where she gained insights into rehabilitation programs for baseball athletes. Active in research and presentations, Juju explores topics such as the impact of hip range of motion on shoulder injuries. Additionally, she holds leadership roles in professional organizations and volunteers at events like the Larry Turner Wheelchair Basketball Tournament. With her academic knowledge, practical skills, and dedication to service, Juju Seki is poised to make a significant impact in athletic training.
Aubrie Sorrell is a dedicated advocate for recreational therapy, pursuing a Master of Science in Recreation and Leisure Services at Texas State University. With a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Southwest Baptist University, she brings a strong understanding of human behavior to her work. Through extensive volunteer experience, including wheelchair basketball tournaments and inclusive dance sessions, Aubrie has demonstrated her commitment to serving individuals with disabilities. As a Graduate Instructional Assistant, she develops evidence-based interventions and supports undergraduate students. With her expertise and passion, Aubrie Sorrell is poised to make a significant impact in the field.
Yadira Soto, currently pursuing a Master's in Recreation Management at Texas State University, holds dual degrees in Sociology and Psychology from UC Riverside. With extensive experience in sports and recreation, she excels in roles such as Graduate Assistant for Sport Clubs, overseeing travel logistics, budgeting, and staff supervision. Yadira's internships at institutions like Drake Stadium and the University of Denver have further refined her event management and leadership skills. Active in NIRSA and certified in CPR/First Aid/AED, she is committed to excellence in recreation management. Proficient in software and fluent in Spanish, Yadira brings a diverse skill set to her endeavors.
