Graduation Requirements
The Master of Education (M.Ed.) with a major in Special Education consists of 36 semester credit hours (12 courses) of major course work and selected cognates/electives plus successful completion of a comprehensive examination.
- Master of Education (M.Ed.) Major in Special Education (Autism/Applied Behavior Analysis Concentration)
- Students in the Autism/ABA concentration are required to successfully complete a semester of practicum experience in the Texas State autism clinic (CARES) requiring 10-20 hours per week in a field setting.
- Students seeking BCBA certification will also need additional supervision hours and will need to pass the BCBA exam.
- Master of Education (M.Ed.) Major in Special Education (Behavioral Disorders/Positive Behavior Supports Concentration)
- Master of Education (M.Ed.) Major in Special Education (Learning Disabilities/Inclusion Concentration)
- Master of Education (M.Ed.) Major in Special Education (Teacher Certification CASE Concentration)
- After all SPED courses are taken, students in the CASE concentration successfully complete a semester of practicum experience requiring 10-20 hours per week in a school setting
- In addition to coursework, students seeking initial teaching certification will be required to pass applicable state-required Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) exams and student teach or successfully complete a year of paid internship. Students must be approved by faculty for internship.
