Dear Parent(s) or Guardian,

I am writing to inform you that over the next five weeks your child will be involved in a special project in his/her Algebra I classroom. The project will be on global warming, which is particularly relevant to students and their lives seeing that global warming is being discussed by the media and scientists worldwide.

Students will work in groups in order to collect data and analyze various issues surrounding global warming from an algebraic and statistical perspective. Most of the project will be completed using the Internet and data I provide as the primary resources.

In addition to these requirements, each group will prepare a final poster in which they will discuss the causes of global warming, its affects, and a plan to prevent its current trend. Grades will be assigned as per the attached rubric.

The majority of work will be completed in class but I do ask for your support in helping make sure that students fulfill any necessary assignments at home. If any of this information is not clear or needs further explanation please feel free to contact me at your convenience.

Thank you very much.
