Students are asked to compose one last clapping piece, containing none of the non-trivial symmetries just discussed.

            Student Does:

Students produce three individual compositions.

Working with a partner, students perform their composition.

Students decide on a simplified notational system, if they choose. They may use formal musical notation, or they may use the notation used in the analysis of “Clapping Music”. Once all permutations are written out, they look for interesting symmetries and patterns.

Students discover that at most, each piece can reduce to identical permutation-blocks of length equal to factors of the pattern length.

Students compose one last clapping piece.
