Dear Parent,

Among the many activities, labs and new discoveries your child will participate in this semester is a specially design research project that will aid in strengthening your child’s understanding of Chemistry related concepts. It is important that you are aware of your child’s participation and progress during this project, which will take place during the second six weeks of the semester, due to the fact that the majority of the grades given for that six week period will be determined based on students’ participation in and completion of the research projects. Overall, this class requires self-discipline and hard work but more so when working in a group on the research project. Please feel free to contact me at anytime if you have any questions (school phone: ________, E-mail: ______).

The research project will require that students be in class, on time, so that they can efficiently work in their assigned group. Although a significant amount of class time has been set aside for students to work on their projects in groups and to offset the out of class time demands, students may occasionally have to work on their projects alone or with their groups in order to meet certain deadlines. Students will be required to purchase a bound notebook, approximately $2, for the project and one poster board per group for the presentation. This bound notebook will aid them in keeping track of all work performed. It is a good idea to purchase the notebook at the beginning of the school year when they are on sale. It is recommended that they use this notebook all year long for the class specifically, but the project research is the only required information that must be present in the notebook. At the end of the six weeks, each group will be required to present the results of their research to the class in the form of a poster session.

Please sign below so that I know that you have seen this letter, the project description and the project due date sheet. Thank you for your time and interest.

Sincerely,
