Sea Urchin Fertilization Lab Directions

1. Draw a ring of Vaseline just outside the depression of a depression slide.
   
   
2. Place a drop of eggs into the depression.
   
   
3. Take a toothpick and touch it to the sperm.
   
   
4. Swish the toothpick in the drop of eggs on the depression slide.
   
   
5. Add a cover slip.
   
   
6. Place slide under microscope
   .
7. Look for motile sperm and shortly after that, the formation of the fertilization membranes.

***Observe for only a short time with your light on. After a few moments, turn off the light and allow nature to take its course. Check it again later in the period.
