Dear
Parent/Guardian,
Your
child will be starting an extended project in their mathematics class that will
be worked on over the next 4 weeks.
I understand that such projects are rare in a mathematics class, so I
would like to introduce you to some of the main ideas and demands of this
project in advance. If you have
any questions please feel free to contact me by any of the means given below.
Our
students will be working on a ÒGeometry in NatureÓ project, during which they
will be exploring the connections between mathematics and the natural world. The project will require time at home to
do brief research and to prepare for a presentation, however, some class time
will be provided to work on this.
Students will be working in small groups, and there will be enough class
time to complete any group work that is required. Small homework assignments
relating to the project will be assigned throughout the project, but will not
be in addition to any other homework from my class. Students are required to purchase a folder to keep copies of
all work done on the project that will be collected at the end of the project. The school will provide all other
materials.
The
project will count for 50% of their 6-weeks grade, since the majority of class
time will be spent on the project. I look forward to working on this project with your child,
and hope they will enjoy it too.
The grade distribution for the project will be as follows:
Attendance/Participation 20%
Homework/Quizzes 20%
Cumulative
Exam 30%
Project
Report 20%
Presentation 10%
Sincerely,
Larkin Campbell / Reem Kattura /
