Dear Parent,

We are about to embark on an exciting part of your childŐs education in science.  In our environmental science class, we will be studying coral reef conservation. The fate of the worldŐs coral reefs lies in the hands of todayŐs high school students.  Our goal is for teens to recognize the value of coral reefs and henceforth strive to preserve and protect them.  Through our proposed six-week lesson, we hope to give students as much exposure to coral reefs and preservation methods as possible.  Planned activities include: a trip to the Forth Worth Aquarium to see a live coral reef display, holding a debate among the students about the proŐs and conŐs of different coral reef conservation methods, writing letters to state representatives to support coral reef conservation projects, and hosting a fund-raiser to support the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands Coral Reef Reserve.

On the day of the field trip, you child will need to bring a sack lunch and money for dinner.  Your child will have an excused absence for his/her other classes.  Please encourage your child to finish all homework and turn it in early as well as get the assignments they will be missing.  Also, please make sure your child gets a good nights rest, as we will be leaving early in the morning on the day of the field trip.  We will be leaving at 7am and will be back by 8pm.
